Triumphant victory for Mahathir Muhammed in Malaysian election
Mahathir Muhammed, Malaysia’s veteran ex-leader, marked today a triumphant victory in the elections, toppling the country’s corrupt premier and ousting a regime that ruled the country for over six decades.
Barisan Nasional Coalition, which has been in power in Malaysia since its birth as an independent country in 1957, lost its power to Mahathir Muhammed’s opposition alliance in the election.
The victory has made way for the political comeback for Mahathir Muhammed, who earlier ruled the country with for 22 long years and came out of retirement to take on Prime Minister Najib Razak after the leader was accused of a massive corruption scandal.
Mahathir Muhammed, 92, will be the oldest prime minister in the world when he takes charge.
