Valiyakulam-Zero Jetty road: FIR registered against Thomas Chandy

A FIR has been registered by the vigilance against former transport minister Thomas Chandy in connection with the irregularities in the construction of Valiyakulam-Zero Jetty road. Chandy has been charged with conspiracy, violation of Kerala conservation of paddy land and wet land.

The FIR was registered against Thomas Chandy as per the direction of the Kottayam vigilance court. Along with Chandy, two former collectors of Alappuzha, P Venugopal and Saurav Jain, also have been charged in the case.

A preliminary report after a quick verification was filed at the Kottayam vigilance court on January 4. The vigilance had informed the court about the irregularities in the construction of the road and had recommended action against Thomas Chandy. Based on this report, the vigilance court directed to register FIR against Chandy in the case.

FIRs have been registered against almost 20 people including Thomas Chandy in the case.

The preliminary probe by the vigilance had found out violation of Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, intervention in MP fund which caused loss to the exchequer, and leveling of 100 meter land for the construction of the controversial road from Valiyakulam to Zero Jetty. The vigilance has started probe into the cases.
