Vigilance court directs police to register case against Thomas Chandy

The Kottayam vigilance court on Thursday ordered the police to register an FIR against former transport minister Thomas Chandy over the allegations of constructing a road to Lake Palace, a resort owned by him, by reclaiming a part of wetland in Valiyakulam-Zero Jetty area. An immediate enquiry carried out by the vigilance had found out irregularities in the construction of the road.

The court has also ordered to submit the investigation report within two weeks. After Subhash M Theekkadan, an Alappuzha native, approached the court demanding a preliminary probe into the allegations against Thomas Chandy, the court had ordered a preliminary probe on November 4. The vigilance was allotted one month’s time by the court to complete the investigation.

The deadline to complete the probe was extended twice following the request from the vigilance. The court, while allowing the vigilance’s demand to extend the time, ordered to file the report on January 4.

After the preliminary probe report was filed by Kottayam vigilance SP, vigilance director Loknath Behera, on Wednesday, had made a recommendation to register a case and conduct an investigation into the allegations against Thomas chandy.
