At least 26 people lost their lives as Kerala was hit by heavy downpours and deadly landslides on Thursday. The deceased are from Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts. The district administration has reportedly sought the support of army to carry out rescues operations and the search for the missing people.
In Idukki, 13 people were killed as the district witnessed heavy downpour followed by a deadly landslide. According to reports, a landslide occurred at Ettumuri near Adimali government school, killing five people. The victims have been identified as Mujeeb, Shameena, Fathima, Diya and Niya. In a landslide at Rajapuram in Murikkashery, three people from a family lost their lives. The deceased are Meenakshi and her children Rajan and Usha.
A deadly landslide was reported from Nilambur in Malappuram district. The landslide claimed the lives of five people from a family.
