Moral policing at it again, man hangs in Malappuram

A man from Malappuram on Saturday committed suicide by hanging after he was attacked by a mob who claimed him to be found under suspicious circumstances. In photos which were circulated on social media platforms, the youth is seen with his hands tied up and sitting in a pitiable state after an apparent rough-up.

The youth, identified as Muhammed Shajid, 23, son of Musthafa, Poozhithara house, was earlier arrested by a night patrol team of Kalpakanchery police after locals complained that he trespassed into a house in Kuttippala in an inebriated state.

Shajid was later taken to the hospital for medical examination by the police, according to reports. The police said that he was not beaten and was lef off since his family members did not file any complaint.

"No cases were registered as there was no complaint from either sides. The man was drunk while he was found. In order to conduct the postmortem examination, the body has been shifted to the government medical college, Kozhikode,"the police said.

Meanwhile, Shajid's relatives alleged that the photos that circulated on social media prompted him to kill himself.
