‘Narendra Modi should follow own advice to me, speak more often’: Manmohan Singh
Unleashing a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his silence on rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua and an alleged rape of a woman by a BJP MLA, former prime minister Manmohan Singh said that Modi should follow the advice that he was giving Singh while he was the prime minister and speak often on issues that matter.
The former prime minister made this statement in an interview given to the Indian Express. In the interview, Singh said that he is happy for the prime minister breaking his silence after a long time when he described the rape victims “India’s daughters” saying that they will get justice.
But I think the Prime Minister should follow his own advice to me and he should speak more often. Through press (reports) I know that he used to criticize me for not speaking up. I feel that the advice that he used to give me, he should follow it himself,”Manmohan Singh said.
He also said that Modi’s failure to speak up earlier had allowed people to think that they could get away without stern action being taken against them. “I do feel that those in authority must speak up in time (so as) to give a lead to their followers,” he said.
